Certain aircraft models can be converted to obtain new operational characteristics. Most commonly these are passenger to cargo conversions, where an older aircraft is modified to carry only cargo instead of passengers. For example, an ATR 42 (carrying around 45 passengers and some cargo) can be converted to ATR 42F that carries only cargo and no passengers.
The conversions usually become available a considerable period of time after the aircraft model has been introduced, similar to real life as the aircraft ages and becomes less suitable for passenger service. The converted models are also never produced as new models. You cannot order them fresh from the factory.
Converting An Aircraft
You may currently convert aircraft one-by-one from the My Aircraft page of each aircraft. If a conversion is available you will see Aircraft conversion link in the Manage aircraft section of the page.
The conversion will update the aircraft to the new model and will change most of the specifications. Please consult the aircraft information pages for the details of the new aircraft model before conversion. The conversion window will only display the brief details for you, such as the new model, price and maintenance duration.
Once you have confirmed the conversion process, the aircraft is sent to maintenance and will automatically return to service once the upgrades have been completed. Conversion cannot be reversed.
